How do I build a Klaviyo flow on an AzLytics event?

Create a flow in Klaviyo with an AzLytics metric as its trigger, filter it to profiles subscribed to email marketing, add an email with the product details from the event, and set it live. This example builds a cart recovery flow.

Before you start

  • Klaviyo and the AzLytics pixel are connected, and Send events to Klaviyo is on (it’s on by default). See Connect Klaviyo to AzLytics.
  • At least one AzLytics event has reached Klaviyo. The AzLytics metrics appear in Klaviyo after the first events arrive.

Steps

  1. Create a flow. In Klaviyo, create a new flow and build it from scratch.

  2. Pick the trigger. Choose Metric as the trigger, then choose AzLytics Added to Cart. (Use AzLytics Viewed Product for a browse flow, or AzLytics Started Checkout for a checkout flow.)

  3. Email only people who subscribed to email marketing. Add a profile filter: choose “If someone can or cannot receive marketing”, then Person can receive email marketing, and add Because person subscribed to email marketing.

  4. Leave out people who already bought. If your Klaviyo account receives your Shopify orders, add the profile filter Placed Order zero times since starting this flow, so people who buy don’t get the email.

  5. Don’t email the same person too often. A shopper enters the flow again each time AzLytics sends a new event for them, so add a filter that skips anyone who was in this flow recently.

  6. Wait a little. Add a time delay, so shoppers who come back on their own aren’t emailed straight away.

  7. Add the email. Insert the product details from the event. Event variables are case-sensitive, so copy them exactly:

    • Product name: {{ event.AddedItemProductName }}
    • Product image: {{ event.AddedItemImageURL }}
    • Product link: {{ event.AddedItemURL }}
    • Price: {{ event.AddedItemPrice }}
    • Link back to the cart: {{ event.CartURL }}

    For a browse flow on AzLytics Viewed Product, use {{ event.Name }}, {{ event.ImageURL }}, {{ event.URL }} and {{ event.Price }}. The full list of properties is in What AzLytics reads and sends.

  8. Check and go live. In the email, click Preview & test to see it with a recent event, then set the flow live.

What happens after it’s live?

  • After your first live flow on an AzLytics metric, AzLytics keeps 10% of eligible shoppers aside to measure the extra revenue. No events are sent for them, so they never enter the flow.
  • In AzLytics → Recovery Suite → Overview, you see the revenue Klaviyo reports for your AzLytics-triggered flows, once your Klaviyo account receives your Shopify orders (Placed Order).
  • AzLytics only sends the events. Your flow and your Klaviyo settings decide who gets an email.
